A move from Lubbock, Texas in 1970 to
head-up a contractor sales position for
a large floor covering company was my
introduction to the construction scene
in Austin, Texas. From the knowledge and
contacts I gained, I decided to establish
my own construction business in 1972.
Since the inception of Carrell Homes,
I have actively built quality custom and
speculative homes in many of the premier
subdivisions in the Austin metropolitan
market. I have homes in Rob Roy, Davenport
Ranch, Estates Above Barton Creek, Lost
Creek, Barton Creek West, Great Hills,
Jester Estates, The Courtyard, Lakeway, The Polo Club and Dos Lagos.
Now: My son, John, is
an active member of my construction business.
Our philosophy is “If it’s
worth doing, it’s worth doing right!”
And to assure that it is done right, Carrell
Homes, over the last 30 years, has cultivated
relationships with the best subcontractors
available. Honesty, quality work, and
attention to detail are the driving forces
of Carrell Homes and our “team concept”
is a big part of our success.
Now & Future: Carrell
Homes recommends that you interview several
builders before you make your final builder
selection. Take the time to get acquainted.
It is essential that both the customer
and the builder feel comfortable with
each other prior to the start of construction.
A trusting relationship can help make
the time it takes to create your dream
home less stressful and less costly. It’s
all about being on the same team.

you will be glad you did.
- A few words from John Carrell.
“The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is gone.”
As a homebuilder in Austin since 1972 I’ve learned a lot about what Austin homebuyers really want. And I’ve found out what brings the ultimate in satisfaction for them.
The one overriding factor that I’ve discovered is that quality and the quotation of a fair, honest price at the onset of the process makes the biggest long-term difference in the comfort level people have with a home. As a result, it’s the philosophy at my company for me to meet personally with my customers before building commences to gain a fair understanding of their real expectations about the home and to determine how much the job will actually cost. That’s one major advantage that people gain when they use my company. Since I’m personally involved in the talks, my homebuyers can be certain that they’re getting the straight story on exactly what the job will entail. They’ll get reliable information about all aspects of the construction work—from carpet grades to plumbing fixtures to landscaping details.
Although we are cost-conscious about all the aspects of the homebuilding budget, we are even more concerned with making quality count. In the final analysis, Carrell Homes is superior to the competition—both in terms of materials and construction.
And at all stages of the building process, the homebuyer can expect personal supervision from me. By remaining a tightly run, efficient company, I’m able to make this commitment of personal time that benefits all parties. Of course, the real benefit is that since I’m always available, the homebuyer has immediate access to the ultimate decision maker in the company.
